​American soprano and Yiddish chanteuse Heather Klein follows her passion of “painting pictures” with her voice – interpreting and inhabiting characters and bringing stories to life.

Heather is a classically trained soprano performing musical theater and Yiddish classical song, theater and folk music. She has performed across the U.S., Canada and Europe. Mostly recently, she been seen on PBS.com with the documentary Harbor from the Holocaust and has currently worked on the Hanukkah Spectacklular with the Folksbiene Theatre (NYC), acting and composition on God of Vengeance (SF Critics Choice Award) with Yiddish Theatre Ensemble (CA). She has also worked with Sundance (MA) and Music Theatre Group (NYC) among others. Klein has performed at: YIVO/Sydney Krum Young Artists Series (NYC), Folkbiene (NYC), Ashkenaz festival (Toronto), YidStock/Yiddish Book Center (MA), Mameloshn Festival (Winnepeg), KlezKanada (Montreal), Balint Haz (Hungary), Tel Aviv (Shalom Aleichem Center) throughout the Bay Area and many residencies throughout the US.

Klein has premiered many Yiddish roles and produced and recorded four albums with her most current releases of Rooted Lullaby - a tri-lingual live recording of 8 original lullabies with colleagues Joshua Horowitz and Becky Khitrik at Yiddish Las Vegas and 8 original songs from her written, produced and composed show Shanghai Angel about her grandmothers’ immigrant story.

Klein premiered her new show about her grandmother's immigrant journey called Shanghai Angel, written and composed by Klein and the music arranged by her collaborator Joshua Horowitz (Verestski Pass) The show premiered at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, and is currently continuing performances.

Heather has also premiered the title roles in "Lilith the Night Demon" a modern Yiddish/English Opera on a west coast tour and at Ashkenaz, as well as the west coast premiere of Di Megile of Itsik Manger (2 tours). She also premiered the role of Rosie in the world-premiere of "Ravensbruek Project," a cabaret opera based on the Holocaust, before a sold-out theater in Boston.

Klein also produced "Yiddish Spring" in honor of Yom HaShoah at the Contemporary Jewish Museum performing Yiddish songs with Veretski Pass, and working with her own Trio to expose a beautiful Yiddish song cycle: Mameloshn.

Upcoming projects include: Wild Burning Rage and Song: Replies to Scottsboro (World Premiere Tour) and Shanghai Angel (Rewrite) performance on Angel Island.
